....the Sebby take on this subject: if it is a direct action of malice with
little gain for the perpetrator and great loss for you, forgiveness or lack
thereof isnt really much of an issue...since i'll just steer waaaaay clear
of this person afterwards.

...if it is a fuck-over by a friend or aquaintance, where they most likely
didnt really stop to think about or care about the results of their actions
upon you, there are 2 possibilities...they are either extremely selfish and
recklessly so, or it is just the nature of the beast - such that they dont
wish you harm but they consistently fall to the same weaknesses due to some
inner need or fear...and anything or anyone that puts themselves in the path
of this 'weakness' shouldnt be surprised when they get burned...once again,
someone to carefully moderate your friendship and association with...e.g.
that good friend of yours that you really like/love but cant lend money to.

...an act of rudeness or nastiness may be forgiven if the person was careful
not to bring upon you any substantive damage...e.g. Mermaid being "mean" to
me - regardless of the fluffy nature of feelings, i'd bet my socks her
superficial abrasiveness with words is that and that alone. in other words
im sure i could leave my dog with her, rent a house to her, lend money and
trust her with a secret etc. stuff like this isnt even grounds for
considering "forgivness" or not, since it wasnt really a maliscious
act...merely directness in speaking...which is lots better than the sneaky
sort of person!!

...ive had a few instances with friends in my past where they betrayed me,
...some of them, i dropped, others i just realized that it's just their
nature...so i keep them on, but with a little footnote reminding me to avoid
like situations in the future.

drsebby.
p.s. sorry mermaid for using you in my example

Perhaps this is too spiritual, but I've always thought that the trademark of
true enlightened behavior was the second case... a la "the wise learns more
from the fool than the fool from the wise".

Hating the stupid will get us nowhere but angry, unless we are prepared to
exterminate...

Have a lovely weekend!
