Thanks. That's neat! At this point I am almost committed to the reality
that some level of life, probably microbial, possibly even simpler
multicellulars, already exists on Mars. Though individual species may indeed
remain constantly threatened by extinction even in a more robust biosphere, I
suspect that life itself is a fairly tenacious phenomenon that will tend to
endure almost anything you could throw at it. So if there ever was life on
Mars, I think the chances are pretty close to one that it is still there in
some form or another.
